Today was a Me, Myself & I day. Initial plan was to have a movie marathon - 13 Going 30 (which is ending real soon) and Man on Fire. But decide to just make do with Man On Fire.
Usual hang out to watch movie alone, is Lot 1. The lady at the counter repeated if I wanted only one ticket. The old Malay man, who took my ticket stub, asked "Sorang aje?" Ish...until I realise what he meant was I'm gonna be all alone in the cinema. Cool! But not for long, about 5 mins into the show, a Chinese man came in..so 2 of us with the whole cinema to ourselves.
Here's a synopsis on Man On Fire:
John Creasy (Denzel Washington) is a lost soul. A former government operative, he has become an alcoholic nomad, searching for inspiration and redemption.
An old friend (Christopher Walken) who lives in Mexico gets Creasy a job as a bodyguard for nine-year-old Lupita "Pita" Ramos (Dakota Fanning), the daughter of Mexican Samuel (Marc Anthony) and his American wife Lisa (Radha Mitchell).
Creasy's primary job is to protect Pita from the kidnapping attempts that are an increasing menace to the children of Mexico City's wealthy. A man of few words and many secrets, Creasy initially balks at Pita's attempts to befriend him, but soon a bond grows between the precocious child and this lonely man who is tormented by his past.
When Pita is kidnapped despite Creasy's valiant attempts to save her, he will do anything to bring all of those involved to justice. His fury unravels a net of almost unimaginable corruption and greed in the process.
Reason why I wanted to watch the show:
1. Denzel Washington
2. Dakota Fanning (she is so adorable! 10yrs old?)
3. It's a 146-min show (worth the $$$)
4. It's abt the corruption in Latin America
The way they portrayed the development of r/ship between Pita (Dakota) and Creasy (Denzel) was certainly heartwarming. Simple thing, like learning how to smile just because of this young girl.
And this is the second show with Dakota Fanning that made me cry. Yes...tears welled up in my eyes. Goodness...I totally didnt expect that to happen! It was supposed to be an full of action and violence. Sure hope the guy behind me didnt see me in the dark, wiping my tears away. But I think, me blowing my nose gave it away. Great show!
The first show that made me cry was "I am Sam" with wonderful cast as well: Michelle Pfeiffer (did i spell it rite?), Sean Penn and Dakota Fanning. That was a great one too.
