THE SUN, THE TILES & THE SWIMMING POOL
Had a short getaway to Batam with my best friend, Lena from 19th - 21st Dec. I'm glad it's not one of those trips where the both of us will be rushing from one shopping centre to another. In other words, both of us
duduk diam-diam kat hotel.
Sunday, 19th Dec
A morning of last-minute packing or rather dumping clothes into my haversack. An afternoon rush of weddings. Alhamdulillah, I finally got a cab at 12.40....promised Lena to meet her at 12.45 :p The ferry is leaving at 2pm anyway.
Harbourfront centre was crowded with humans! Lotsa them. Aunties and uncles left for Batam w/o any luggage or backpacks. We were told later that their reason for going to Batam is to gamble at the Casino. I didn't know that!
We arrived at Batam island after a 45-min ferry ride. A hotel staff (Harris Resort) dressed in bright orange Polo-T with Santa's hat, greeted us and brought us to the again bright orange coloured van. Harris Resort is just a few minutes away from the ferry terminal. How convenient!
The hotel lobby must be one of the smallest I ever been to (or probably cos there were so many people attending a comoany event there). I immediately thought that the rooms would be small too. I was wrong! We were given the Deluxe King Room cos the superior rooms were not ready. (how lucky!) And their swimming pool is a wow! Baby pool, ala-jacuzzi pool, 2 adult pools complete with water polo goal posts. And a clubhouse with a bowling alley, gym, arcade corner, KTV, spa facilities.
Both of us were famished! We left at 3.45pm, to catch the 4pm shuttle bus service to Nagoya (city). It was a half an hr ride to the city. I didn't see any child beggars, which is a common sight at Tanjung Pinang and Medan. Probably not in that particular town.
Nagoya is only a 2-storey shopping centre, but having a few stores selling bags is good enough for me. And to further add to my collection of bags...I bought one! Just one...that's the only thing I bought. (Really!!!)
First stop, NOODLE HOUSE - a halal food outlet which serve chinese-style (HK) noodles (duh!), tim sum and rice. We ordered fried dumplings, nasi goreng (from the Indonesian menu) and chicken noodles. My fried rice came first and was placed in the middle of the table. Lena was too hungry to wait for her noodles, so both of us ate it together. It was delicious with fried egg and prawn fritters (or maybe we were too hungry).
When we finished it, the noodles was then served. Just in time. It was a tasty dish too...and yes, we shared.
Next stop, we went for junk food shopping and bags of course. And we made a fool out of ourselves at the arcade. It's so cheap! Each game only costs us 1000 rupiahs, which is equivalent to only 18cents!
The hotel staff fetched us at 8pm. That's our shopping trip...that was it. The rest of the night was eating junk food and watching Young and Dangerous 3.
Monday, 20th Dec
A quick breakfast @ the hotel's cafe. Then it's off to the pool for suntanning for Lena and me sunblocking at the same time reading a Marketing mag. We had fun with the Casio's digicam. The photos are not uploaded yet though.
After lunch, we were off to Marina Spa for a Relaxing Aromatherapy massage. It's so refreshing! Before dinner, we had a bowling good time (and embarassing).
Tuesday, 21st Dec
We hit the pool again for the last time. And then, it was packing time! It was a definitely one relaxing trip (and cheap!).
