TSUNAMI DISASTER
We were shocked by the major earthquake, measuring 9 on the Richter scale, hit Sumatra on Sunday morning. This makes it the world biggest in 40 years. The most powerful earthquake was a 9.5 in Chile. This resulted to a devastating natural disaster in the region - tsunami. Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Thailand...
In Indonesia, the officials reported that Aceh is the worst hit area due to its location, nearest to the epicentre. Look at the figures (and still rising):
India -- 6597 dead
Indonesia -- 4725 dead
Malaysia -- 51 dead & 200 injured
Myanmar -- 30 dead
Sri Lanka -- 10,897 dead
Thailand -- 866 dead & 5000 injured
Maldives -- 43 dead
Bangladesh -- 2 dead

Coincidentally, it's been a year since the earthquake in Iran. The news had reported that residents in Bam, Iran are still living in tents and children are studying in temporary schools. The government does not seem to make any major progress in ensuring that their lives would be back to normal.
The moment I heard about the tsunami, affecting the region, and that Maldives called for a state emergency, I sent an SMS to my friend who had went back to his hometown in Maldives. He replied that he was alright as he was in Male, and that the city was not affected. It was the low-lying islands which were badly affected. Alhamdulillah.
My client, called telling me that she was thankful her plans with husband to go to Phuket was cancelled. She had initially wanted to go there over the Christmas holiday weekend, but had to cancel due to fully-booked flights. Certainly a blessing in disguise.
I watched the news more attentively just now. Most of those who perished were children. Mothers crying for the lost of their children. Corpses everywhere. Homes destroyed. Fishermen lost their only mata pencarian. I couldnt help it but cry. Berat mata memandang, lagi berat bahu yang memikul.
Allah Lebih Berkuasa. My heart and prayers goes to those who perished in this traumatic episode, and for those who lost their loved ones. May this be a reminder to us from Him that nothing in this world lasts forever and none is indestructible except Him.
