SILENTLY YOU LEFT
As silent as he was,
So was his departure from this world.
He passed away peacefully last night.
No warning, nor was there any sign.
My only paternal granduncle, Tok Suhni.
It was all too overwhelming..these short 2 months.
I lost my paternal grandma, and a granduncle.
Though I was not as close to him as I was with his late wife,
I missed that peaceful look on his face.
He was a man of few words,
Never complaining, never raised his voice,
His laughter was a sweet smile,
His answers to people's questions were
short and sweet.
He and his late wife were the first people to call me when I got my O level results.
His late wife, Nenek Norda, was a principal.
My memories of him was when they were still staying at the 3-room flat in Bendemeer Road.
I loved the homely feeling there...
I remember his usual words "Minumlah teh ni, makanlah kuih ni...takde apa2 lah nak hidang"
The flat was demolished, so they shifted to my Aunt's place.
Few years later, Nenek's health deteriorated.
After Nenek passed away, 2 years ago I think,
With my last memory of her, was giving her my 1st duit raya to her whilst she lied on the bed,
Tok was quieter, more silent than his normal self
He would just sit at his chair, not strong enough to walk on his own
Just looking around him and not a single word from him.
Loneliness.
It's tougher for Dad, as I realised tears welling up his up early this morning.
They were his favourite uncle and aunt
He was theirs.
He spend lots of time at their house,
Helping to take care of their 3 children.
And he just lost his mum.
